In his latest write-up, Cédric Exbrayat breaks down the key additions in Angular v16.1:

  • Compatibility with TypeScript 5.1
  • Support for transforming input values
  • Fetch backend option for the Angular HTTP client
  • Angular CLI: using --force-esbuild ensures esbuild is used during ng serve

💬RFC Discussions

💬RFC: Built-In Control Flow

The proposal introduces a fresh control flow syntax tailored for Angular HTML templates. It draws considerable inspiration from Svelte’s approach and the Mustache templating system.

Daniel Glejzner has detailed how the current structural directives (such as NgIf, NgForOf, NgSwitch) might be phased out in favor of this new syntax. Check out his article: Angular is getting New Template Syntax.

💬RFC: Deferred Loading

This RFC outlines techniques for progressively loading less critical sections of the UI or page content.

With Angular 16 marking Karma as deprecated and introducing Jest in an experimental capacity, there are plenty of open questions. Rainer Hahnekamp provides clarity on this shift and the current testing landscape within Angular.

Wayne Leung evaluates several strategies for building custom form components:
