This week’s Angular Q&A session offered both clarity and a bit of debate, particularly around the revised style guide and the ongoing discussion about effect(). Meanwhile, every talk from Ng-Baguette 2025 has been posted to YouTube, with sessions delivered in both French and English.
Angular Q&A — June Session
The June Angular Q&A has wrapped up, with Jeremy Elbourn and Mark Thompson from the Angular team hosting the event. Jeremy was particularly active in responding to community questions.
One topic he addressed was the reasoning behind updates in the new style guide. The decision to drop the mandatory Component suffix drew considerable attention and feedback from developers.
According to Jeremy, the guidance now encourages naming that reflects a component’s actual role — think View, Model, Dashboard, or similar descriptors — rather than relying on a generic suffix.
The conversation also circled back to a familiar point of contention: the idea that effect should never be used. As it turns out, that advice doesn’t hold up under scrutiny.
Avoiding effect entirely doesn't make sense. It is a public API; if the Angular team didn’t intend for it to be used, it wouldn’t exist. That said, when reaching for effect, it’s worth considering whether a Signal-based alternative like computed, resource, or linkedSignal might fit the use case better.
In most cases, if effect is being used solely to sync two signals, that could point to a design issue worth revisiting.
Jest 30
Jest 30, which adds support for ESM, remains in an experimental phase.
Jest is one of two testing frameworks being considered for official integration with the Angular CLI.
The other option is Vitest, and signs of progress are already visible — new enhancements aimed at improving Vitest support have been merged into the Angular 21 branch.
Ngx-Formly 7
Ngx-Formly, a widely used library for building dynamic forms, has reached version 7. This release adds support for provider functions as an alternative to the older NgModules approach.
The library takes a configuration object to generate form templates, is built on top of Reactive Forms, and offers integrations with popular UI libraries such as Angular Material, Ionic, and PrimeNG.
